Paul Hackett

Chief Executive Officer

Paul ( pictured at Turnberry with the Open claret jug ) played his first round on a cold morning at Bolton Municipal Golf Course in October 1974 with borrowed clubs going round in a magnificent 140 strokes ... for the next 41 years he plied his trade playing the municipal courses of the North West until he resolved to join a club after retiring from his job as a Clinical Lead Mental Health Nurse in May 2015 . After considering the golf clubs of Sale,Houldsworth and Davenport , Hackett signed up to join Altrincham GC in August 2015 . Within a year of joining he was elected onto the Committee and briefly served (including spells as a member of Handicap Committee and acting Secretary) before leaving the Committee to focus on developing his own independent website that plays homage to the on-course records of the club . He had earlier gained the vital co-operation of then Golf Manager Jason Denton in putting these reports on the clubs ‘intelligent golf’ website but due to unresolved differences with the Committee elected to set up this website so that the rank and file members could still enjoy them . They are his legacy to the club for giving him an outlet to play and report on those most important competitions , contests where the winner has his name etched upon the hallowed boards of the club found in their ClubRoom . Hackett undertook the long process of digitising all surviving boards of the club and has placed the names A-Z on his website , celebrating those winningmost members with a place on the Hall of Fame . Paul has been writing reports on every one of the now 38 annual Board Competition since the start of the 2018 season . He produces attention-to-detail reports which aim to eulogise our members achievements and comment on the trials and tribulations of competition in a dramatic and occasionally humorous way . His unorthodox playing style belies a fierce determination to compete and his record in plundering 6 Board Competition victories as well as achieving Senior Pairs wins at Dunham Forest , Prenton and Vicars Cross with unforgettable Senior Team victories in Southport & Ainsdale and an NHS NorthWest event add up to an individual who continues to enjoy his golfing journey and intends to continue as long as he has breath in his body . Hackett moved to Lytham St. Annes in April 2024 but still makes the 110 mile round trip to Alty to play our beloved course .
