2018 F Cox Memorial 5th May

David Christian (21/20/41) has confirmed his status as one of last seasons most improved players by capturing  the first board competition of his golfing career after an ultimately dominant win in warm sunny conditions  . His 21 points on the front 9 had him in a joint lead with Peter MacDonald a point clear from veteran 2016 F Cox champ  George Sainthouse at that stage but a poor 1 point haul in Altys Amen Corner (12-14) looked to possibly end his challenge until he redoubled his efforts and regained his former momentum with a blistering 14 points ( including 2 pars and a birdie) in his last 4 (championship) holes which ultimately proved decisive ...

J Greatbanks winner Glen Rothwell continued his fine form with a fabulous gross 71 yielding 20/18/38 and he was in a clear winning position before that devastating Christian finish ... his efforts reduced his handicap by 0.3 to just 2.1 !

John Hogan (18/17/35) was also in contention but sadly faded in the closing holes( just 3 points 16-18)  to take third place whilst F Cox 2017 champion Stewart Royle made a robust defence of his title finishing 4th with 13/21/34 although an average front 9 left him too far away to properly contend .

Special mention also to Andrew Wood who posted a ‘best in show’ 22 point haul on the back 9 after a poor 8 points from his first 9 holes .

David Christian has now reduced his handicap by a substantial 2.4 to 22.2 but will that stop him from contending strongly in the majors again this year ? We will see ...
