JS Chorlton Trophies 4th. August 2018

The pairing of softly-spoken premier ball-striker and short game master Andy Miehe with the wily strategist veteran John Rossiter seemed to be a strong pairing on paper and so it proved as the duo made a strong start including a 4 point birdie from Miehe on the difficult 5th and cruised to an impressive 25 points at the turn .

It was a similar situation on their back 9 with a joint ‘best in show’ 23 point haul ( including 5 triple point holes ) and they had a minimum of 2 points per hole throughout ... both players contributed 9 scores and their massive 48 point total gave them the trophies !

Paul MacDonald and Danny Miller (24/22/46) have a knack of producing their best in the big competitions and they were a strong second . At the turn their 24 point haul was second only to the winners with MacDonald the dominant competitor with 7 scores including a 4-pointer on 7th hole ... on the back 9 it was Miller who came to the fore providing 5 scores including the final 3  as his ‘ brother from another mother’ understandably tired and their 46 points were just 2 points short .

Third placed Andrew ‘ BunnyGlazier’ Window and Ian ‘Cheets’ Cheetham are known as a colourful duo these days as the shy impressionable local handyman ‘Cheets’ has been encouraged by his diminutive maverick glazing executive dominant partner to dress more outlandishly and he has responded positively in this regard .

Currently ranked L.I.P (#111) of Altys’ 111 members in the improved player ratings Ian came out of the golfing doldrums today with a bang providing 5 of the first 6 scores ( the highlight a superb 4 point par on the 5th)  .

From the 7th hole Window then resumed normal service and took control providing 10 of the final 12 scores ... a superb 44 point total to take third place .

2017 champions Mark Snape and Steve ‘Taff’ Wilkinson did not defend their title together with just the honorary Welshman on show today pairing up with Altys’ Manc Geordie George Sainthouse and this ‘strong pairing’ finished 25th of 26 just beating Alty GCs octogenarian treasure Neil Gallagher who played alone but gathered a respectable 23 points .

Special mentions ...

go to the other lone player 10hcp Howard ‘Big Bird’ Johnson (21/16/37) who  played off 9  but still finished with an admirable 37 points taking 23rd. place !

The partnership of John Hogan and Tim Roberts (19/23/42) found themselves down the field after a steady 19 points at the turn but their 23 point haul in the back 9 was a joint ‘best in show’ performance with Hogans’ birdies on 11 and 14 the highlight !
