2018 Remembrance Trophy 19th. May

Slaters’ surprise victory has come in just his third round of the summer season after two outings well down the leaderboard ... he started steadily and made the bulk of his scoring mid-round with a superb haul of 22 points in 8 holes highlighted by a 4 point birdie on the tricky 13th. His 19/21/40 return was just enough to win the Trophy ! The handicapper has cut his handicap by 1.0 to a new mark of 19.5.

Mark Snape has started the season in great form and his 19/20/39 effort was just one shot away in second . A magnificent gross 73 included 2 birdies and just 4 bogeys with two of them crucially on higher stroke index holes  and the difficulty of the low handicap player to win was clearly illustrated here . His handicap has again been trimmed , this time by 0.2 to 5.1 .

78 years young evergreen Ken Dixon (17/21/38) belied his age with a scintillating round in today’s warm conditions including 7 net birdies and a superb 21 point haul in his back 9 ... his handicap has been understandably reduced by 0.3 to 19.4 after his efforts today to finish third .

Earlier in the day after all had played the front 9 Alty GC master renovator Ian ‘Cheets’ Cheetham was leading and showing the value of his recent golfing tuition with a 21 point haul but an average back 9 sent him sadly tumbling down the leaderboard . Curiously all the other top 5 placers at the turn ( Messrs Wilkinson , Gayle , President Stopford and Alty low handicap newbie Mark Ashcroft )  suffered similar fates .

In regard to the back 9 special mention has to be made of F Cox winner David Christian, who roused himself after a poor start by a blistering back 9 ‘best in show’ 23 point haul that included net birdies at the last SIX  holes to finish in 7th. place ... it appears that the handicapper has not yet slowed his ability to contend .
