After 17 events the battle to be victorious in the AGC Memorial has heated up considerably with the top 10 members separated by just 22 points . Early leader Bernie Wood remains in contention but has dropped to 4th place … whilst Johnny Boardman has retained his third place it is now Andy Miehe and James Darmon who were locked together at the top of the leaderboard with a slender 2 point advantage . <br>9 of the top 10 have registered their minimum 8 events but the current favourite for the comp is 7th placed Chris O’Connell who is just 19 points away with just 7 events played .
Chris O’Connell has come on top in the AGC Memorial Series to take the £70 winners voucher with Johnny Boardman holding on for the £50 second place voucher and Andy Miehe in third place collecting a £30 voucher for his efforts . O’ Connell only played in 11events but came from 19 points down to take the victory , making the crucial move with his 37 point haul on the penultimate round of the competition taking him into a 3-point lead … the final round was cancelled due to poor weather conditions.
Chris has kept up a fantastic standard in these events , scoring more than 32 points in every competition … his high scoring was maintained in spite of the relentless lowering of his handicap . Despite maintaining high scores he still went into the final weekend in second place on countback to Johnny Boardman and needed that 19/18/ 37 point flourish , powering through to that total after reaching 29 points with the Championship holes to complete then finishing in style with 8 points courtesy of a superb birdie on 16 , net birdie on 17 then parring the final hole in regulation to clinch the W . A truly remarkable effort from an individual who played his opening competition of the summer season with a 16 handicap and his final one with his handicap reduced to just 8 .
