R Gyves and Gardener trophies Saturday 8th September 2018

Keith Ralston and Mark Snape (72/7.6/64.4) are undeniably two of our clubs best golfers and they showed their ability to master greensomes golf

with an awesome display today . They played 9 holes  better than handicap ( including birdies on 9 and 13 ) with only two dropped shots ( on 3 and 18 ) meant a net 64.4 return ... they had finished the front 9 in second place and powered to victory with a ‘best in show’ 3 under handicap back 9 and could even afford to bogey the last .

Alastair Holloway and Gareth Owen (80/12/68) finished in an excellent second place with a solid round of 5 holes played better than handicap( including birdies on 11 and 18) with their only blemishes on 2 and 12 ,allowing them to finish 4 under their handicap .

Johnny Boardman and John Dixon (85/16.6/68.4) were eventually placed third with 8 holes better than handicap including a birdie on the 4th whilst blemishes came on 12/15/18 ... the duo led the field at the turn and had progressed to 5 under their handicap but it was  those trio of triple bogeys on the back 9 that ultimately proved their undoing and ended their challenge ... nevertheless a fine effort .

Honourable mentions go to the long-standing pairing of devoted Committee members Norman Crowther and Matt Goodall (77/8/69) who finished fourth after a solid display highlighted by their birdie on 10 and were the only other pair to better their handicap .

5th placed septuagenarians Tommy Chambers and Ken Dixon

(89/16.2/72.8) had a steady round whereas this observer and his partner David Christian AND JS Chorlton winners John Rossiter and Andy Miehe were both handily placed at 2 under their handicap but both pairs succumbed to the challenges of the back 9 to tumble down the leaderboard .

Overall a golfing war of attrition as our fairways become more sodden with the re ent regular rainfall but our greens continue to perform to the highest standard ... many thanks to our greenkeeping team for their efforts !
