JFord 2018 Nett Championship (unofficial)

Brian Southworth (71/70/141)

was the only golfer to record a sub-par 36 holes as his net 1 under was good enough to win by 4 strokes today . Brian’s victory is undoubtedly due to his mastery of the more difficult back 9 and he again came from behind to take the huge bragging rights given the course is played at its maximum length . He can undoubtedly retire shortly to sunnier climes in fine spirits after such a marvellous victory and fine season as one of our golfers of the year !

Gordon Boardman (75/70/145) finished an excellent second and can look to his consistency with only 3 double bogeys in 36 holes and his success mainly due to his front 9 efforts with 2 shots gained to handicap .

Mark Snape (73/72/145) also matched just 3 double bogeys in 36 holes and a net 3 over finish meant he was on the podium for both gross and net competitions .

Glen Rothwell (70/75/145) can understandably be thrilled with his efforts which have brought him the major gross prize but have seen him in touching distance of what would’ve been a stunning double . Consistency in challenging conditions despite his low handicap makes a fourth-placed finish very creditable .

Paul ‘ Macca’ MacDonald (75/71/146) , your reporter ( Paul Hackett 75/71/146) and Norman Crowther (69/77/146) all finished on 4 over their handicap for their 36 holes and can take great pride in their performances over the weekend in finishing 5th , 6th and 7th respectively .

Defending J Ford net ( and gross ) champion Stewart Royle (75/79/154) was in 16th position after round 1 after a net 4 over score and was to maintain that position in the harsher conditions on round two despite scoring net 8 over to finish 12 over his handicap for the competition and was never able to mount a serious challenge .
